Verdea wines first appeared in the early 19th century and were identified with the later wine history of the island of Zakynthos. Despite the small size of the island, for decades many dozens of native vine varieties have been cultivated there. A typical testimony is a poem of 1601, where in a few verses 34 varieties are listed, most of which survive to this day! However, the name Verdea does not refer to a grape variety, but to a blend wine style. Pre-fermentation extraction under controlled environment, alcoholic fermentation at rated temperatures. Maturation ‘Sur lie’ for 4 months with periodic stirring. Aging for 6 months in French oak barrels. On the nose aromas of lemon blossoms, citrus fruits, bergamot, jasmine and white fruit. Sweet vanilla notes and a peppery ginger feel. On the palate, it surprises with its complexity and lively acidity. Can develop gracefully in the bottle for 5-7 years.
